Things I hope I’m wrong about in another 4 years of Trump.
I’m no great fan of the man, let me make this clear from the outset. This is not an unbiased piece of writing. In my life, I believe I have never seen a leader so unfit for the job. As I write this, at 5am on Monday the 6th of November 2024, his victory is looking all but assured.
I’d like to put in place my predictions about what these next four years will entail, so when they happen, I’ll seem like the saddest, but smartest guy in the room. I have split these predictions into 3 categories, ‘Pretty bad’ ‘Really bad’ and ‘Shit your pants bad’. I will be very pleasantly surprised if anything good comes from the term at all, for working class people.
- Pretty Bad
COST OF LIVING. His Tariffs are going to add about $4000 dollars to the average American's yearly spend. Every noted economist in the western world has said this is a terrible idea, but if he holds the senate as well as the presidency no one will stop him . His awful standing and lack of international statesmanship are going to damage the dollar’s effective usefulness on the world stage, and make the use of imported goods and services very, very expensive. This is going to hit the pockets of those at the bottom badly.
TAX BREAKS. Trump will continue to give tax breaks to the very rich, as well as criminal pardons and juicy government contracts. His mismanagement is going to cause the national debt to rise indefinitely. Biden’s done a lot of work to offset that debt, that will be thrown out. Once again, this will effect the poorest, as the money is stripped from public services like schools and city and road maintenance, parks (and the like) to fill the black whole left in unclaimed taxes.
MISMANAGED PUBLIC HEALTH. He’s going to put a man who wants to get rid of the fluoride in the water and remove vaccine mandates in charge of health. RFK is going to be calling the shots, and he’s going to make some terrible decisions that are going to make access to important healthcare harder. A lack of vaccines is going to lead to an increase of preventable communal disease, and pairing that with a severe cut to ‘Obamacare’ or a complete gutting thereof, will leave a lot more people without the means to pay for treatment, in a environment that is worse for their health. Removing the red tape around things like building regulations are also going to exacerbate this problem.
2. Really Bad
THE MERGING OF CHURCH AND STATE. The heads of extreme Christian groups will be allowed to actively affect policy, and America will become a true ‘Christian Nation’. this has already affected access to abortion care, and it will not stop there. More stringent policing of women’s bodies is definitely on the table, as well as possible restrictions on the legitimacy of gay marriage, access to trans care and at it’s most extreme, women’s (Especially married women’s) autonomy when it comes to divorce, access to care if abused, or maybe even their right to vote at all.
CHANGES TO THE CONSTITUTION. Trump will attempt to change voting rules to be able to run for a third term, and allow himself more access to oppressive police powers and the ability to pardon himself. Oppression through the use of the National Guard are one of the worst things he’s going to try, and that leads me to my next point:
GREAT LIMITATIONS ON FREEDOM OF SPEACH. Expect to see protestors, ‘dissidents’ and even members of the opposing party shut down with arrests, violence and verbal attacks. He will use the power of the government as Mussolini did, to imprison and silence people who speak out against him. Expect things like ‘independent fact checkers’ and ‘Moderate reporting’ to be eroded in the next few years. I suspect many journalists will be arrested, probably using a new law that criminalises ‘foreign agents’ and ‘anti-American’ writing.
3. Shit Your Pants Bad
MASS DEPORTATION. Many ‘Foreigners’, be they here legally or illegally, will be forcibly removed from the country. The step before their deportation will be an imprisonment that will greatly undermine these people’s human rights. This will lead to a Soviet style informant culture where locals roll on their friends and neighbours simply for being not white.
As well as having devastating effects on the economy and low level jobs (similar to what we saw after Brexit, but on a bigger scale), it will encourage more open racism, disrupt community integration and ghettoise non white areas of bigger towns. This will lead to many smaller cities, with a lowering birth rates, to lose the people that keep the ground floor of the economy in motion.
GROUND WAR IN EUROPE. Trump is going to cut support for Ukraine, at the behest of his Russian overlord. This will lead to Russia taking Ukraine, and within two years, a mobilisation of ground troupes by Russia inside of Ukraine, to attack another ex-soviet block country. My money’s on Romania, Moldova or Poland. This will trigger the NATO defence agreements and put Europe in a state of war with Russia, and it’s allies. Trump will not come to the defence of the Europeans, leading to my final point:
A REFORMATION OF ALIANCES ON THE WORLD STAGE. An unprecedented shift of allegiances that find’s Trump’s America teaming with Putin’s Russia. A Fascist alliance that excludes and demonises Europe, Africa and Southern America. Trump has already stated publicly Europe ‘Does not pay enough’ and ‘doesn't deserve America's help’ and Russia’s goals and America’s new goals will be similar. Oligarchy, Oppression and a ‘Ruler for Life’ are all on the cards.
I hope beyond hope I’m wrong. I hope he’s just going to achieve the first block and set America back a few years. But he has no good advisors, generals or any ability to listen to or comprehend any opinion or facts other than his own. A world leader left unchecked and with a failing mental state, unstable Ego and a vendetta is a terrible thing for America, and the world at large that has to deal with his temper tantrums, unrealistic demands and criminal Tactics.
Worst of all though, is the fact he’ll be on TV more, demanding our attention and dominating the news cycles. He is going to leave America in a more hateful, 3rd world condition than it already is, and cause more distrust of clear thinking, intelligent people.
